Just got this working! The trick was using the correct node type. Seems obvious now.
TechCurious: FYI: the Node-RED community includes pre-built configurations — saved me so much troubleshooting.

Quick note: the migration tool no longer works in version X. Use Zigbee2MQTT instead.
